My 21-day fast revealed this.

Today, after church, I perused one of my favorite stores to see what was on clearance

While there, I couldn't help but reflect on the five principles I learned during my 21-day fast. So often, when we lack clarity and direction, the lure is to “just do something” and hope for the best. But God has a better way, which usually involves fasting and prayer.

Here is what I learned.

* Understanding is not synonymous with trust. (You must trust God even when you don't understand) Proverbs 3:5-6

* Fear Has a Root. You can't deal with the fruit until you have plucked up the root of fear. 2 Timothy 1:7

* Indecisiveness is a manifestation of not trusting your judgment. (If you've ever been hurt or betrayed, it can and will skew your judgment.) However, God wants us to make a decision and move forward. Proverbs 16:3

* You are not behind in life. (The culture, your ages, and perceived limitations will make you feel as though you are behind) But if you are in God’s will, you are right where you are supposed to be. Genesis 50:20

* You are forgiven, move ahead. The enemy wants you to loathe what you can't change. Let it go, trust God, and go on. God’s plan is forward. Philippians 3:13
