How to manage desires in light of God’s will
The Lord will give you the ability to manage your desires in light of His purposes. If you have been praying and seeking the Lord for direction because of a desire, I believe this video will bring clarity to your life.
God cares about your desire for change. He sees when you are up at night, weighing options and wondering what the best step forward is. God won’t abandon you to yourself. Nor will he leave you with questions without settling your heart, even if he doesn’t give the answer right away.
The Bible says in Psalm 145, verses 16 and 19: “Thou openest thine hand, And satisfiest the desire of every living thing. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: He also will hear their cry, and will save them.” Psalm 145:16, 19 KJV
One principle that has been extremely helpful in me finding my way when I needed to pivot was to first investigate where the desire is stemming from. Sometimes, though the desire is good, it may not be God’s plan or His timing.
The second principle: Timing is everything in the kingdom of God, and so is our posture as we wait for Him to move. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight thyself also in the LORD; And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
You see the picture in this text: as you delight- meaning finding contentment and joy amidst your circumstances- God will manufacture those prayer requests into giving you what is best for you in light of His purposes. His desires inevitably should become yours. This is where surrender comes in. Surrender simply means total trust. It’s totally and completely abandoning yourself to God’s purposes while trusting that His Way is better.
Not only does the timing matter, but so does the why. Why do you desire to do this? Is it because you've seen it, or do you deeply believe you are called to be or do this thing right now? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve run ahead of God thinking I knew what to do- only to fall down and return to the starting point of prayer.
The final principle would be leaning into what God is allowing. Sometimes we want to escape, but God may be using this very trial to refine you in other areas to prepare you for what’s ahead. To lean means to rest and to put weight on. Imagine leaning on a wall after walking up the staircase in Italy. Lol. We see this in Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.”
Do you have a desire and you don’t know what to do with it? Or are you discouraged because nothing seems to be working? Have you tried to pivot or move toward what you believe the Lord has said but still don’t see results? If so, don’t grow weary. We operate in Chronos; that’s daily counting, whereas God always guides in Kairos seasons- exact moments.
God has not abandoned you, and His plans are sure. Trust Him.
