How soon we forget

There has been interest in my past devotionals lately. Interest that has honestly surprised me. Most don't know this, but I hardly ever remember what I wrote. I write as my heart leads me and clean it up with sound Scripture, but even then, it's like the download comes: I write through revelation, I believe, and it releases. It's wild. Lol

But one truth that I've seen time and time again is: what's from the heart, when your words are pure, will always reach other hearts- those who are navigating a similar journey. I never ever want to lose touch with my story. With the hope that I found in Christ, past, present, and future. And I surely don't ever want to forget God’s goodness and grace throughout it all. I use my pen and my voice to tell of God’s goodness. This keeps me grounded and content, even when life isn't going as planned.

But more than that, I use my history to remember God’s goodness because, just as he told the children of Israel, “Don't you forget all the ways I brought you out of Egypt, all the miracles I did”; my paraphrase. But no, don't you ever forget. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever; trust Him.  Reread some of your old stuff to refresh yourself on past lessons.

There are seasons in your life when you may forget. Forget what God said. Forget who you were before you entered a difficult season. You may forget God’s promises that are throughout the Old and New Testaments. You may forget what your desires were, and amidst the confusion, you will so desperately seek after what's next. Forgetting is one thing, but laying down what you know and losing it in the rubble of life is never ok! There are so many voices, so many opinions, but only one thing stands true. What did God say?

The children of Israel were a forgetful people. No matter how many times God showed up when their backs were against the wall, the moment discontentment set in, or when they reflected on their past, they complained, and their complaining led to more forgetfulness. God calls us to the contrary. He said, "Remember all the ways I brought you through; remember the Lord your God." He is constantly pointing toward the power of remembering who He is, what He promised to do for us and in us, and who He will always be. And who we truly are in Him. We are more than conquerors, a victorious people.

If circumstances outside your control have caused you to forget, then I encourage you to pull out your Bible. Search the promises of God. Then pray in faith, asking the Lord to restore peace into your heart.
